Printable form PDF troubleshooting: layout, images and paper

Find whether a problem comes from the designer, the saved PDF or the printer, then correct the right part of the workflow.

When a printed form looks wrong, first identify where the problem appears. Compare the live preview, the downloaded PDF and one printed copy. A problem already visible in the saved PDF needs a different fix from a printer that is using the wrong paper size.

Keep the designer tab open while checking the first download. FormPDFKit does not save the current design as an account project, so refreshing the page can discard changes you still need to revise. Downloaded files remain on your device, but they do not restore every editable field setting.

The form prints too small

Check the PDF's page size against the selected printer paper. A Legal PDF printed onto A4 using Fit will be reduced to fit the different sheet. That can make handwriting lines smaller even though the original preview looks spacious.

Choose A4 in the designer if the office will use A4 paper, then review the page count and download a new PDF. For a same-size print, begin with Actual size or 100% and inspect the printer preview. Use the printing guide for the full test sequence.

An edge or the bottom of the page is clipped

Inspect the saved PDF first. If the entire border and final signature row are visible there, check the printer's paper selection, printable margins and scaling. Adobe's page-size guidance explains how Fit and Actual size behave differently. Try an adjusted print setting on one copy before printing the batch.

If a label is crowded inside the PDF itself, shorten the label without losing its meaning or give the field full width. Add more writing lines where necessary. Read the question again after changing it so the shorter wording does not become ambiguous.

A logo is blurry or has a white box

Check the source image at its original size. A low-resolution screenshot remains blurry when enlarged. A white rectangle in a JPEG is part of the image; the designer does not automatically remove it.

Use a clear original logo, ideally a 600 × 600 pixel transparent PNG for a square crest. Rectangular logos preserve their proportions and can appear smaller within the available header space. The logo and watermark guide explains these differences.

The watermark interferes with handwriting

Reduce its opacity and print another sample. The available range is 5% to 25%, with 10% as the starting value. A watermark that is subtle on a screen can look stronger after printing or photocopying. Select None if a clean background is more useful than extra branding.

For black-and-white office copies, compare the designer's Ink saver setting with the ordinary color design. Examine pale shaded answer areas, fine logo details and thin borders on the sample rather than judging only by the on-screen colors.

The form unexpectedly uses another page

Long questions, more writing lines and additional sections need physical space. Check all pages before deciding that a second page is a fault. Reducing every field can leave applicants with an attractive but unusable form.

Remove duplicate questions, group short related fields sensibly and give longer answers enough width. Consider Legal only if the printer and intended recipients can use that paper. Otherwise, keep the A4 layout and plan how the office will collect multi-page sets.

A download does not appear

Look in the browser's download list and the device's Downloads folder. Confirm that the browser allows downloads from the site and that the device has space to save the file. If you need to report a repeatable problem, note the browser, paper size, selected design and which button you used.

Do not send a completed student form as a bug report. A description of the blank layout or a sample with personal details removed is enough to begin checking. Use the Contact page for the site's public contact address.

Keep a small office test routine

Before distributing a new form, check one long answer, one address, the last field, the signature area and the selected paper size. Save the final PDF with a clear name and print one sample. These small checks are usually easier than correcting a large stack of forms after families have begun filling them in.
